Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 6, 2026

Sona is built so that the things you make in it — your recordings, your lines, your name — stay on your iPhone. This policy explains, in plain language, what that means in practice and the small amount of data that does leave your device.

Sona is made by Sydcup (“we”, “us”). If you have a question about this policy, write to contact@sydcup.com.

The short version

  • No account. Sona has no sign-up, no login and no user profile on a server.
  • Your voice never leaves your phone. Recordings, affirmation text, your name and your schedules are stored on your iPhone. We never receive them.
  • No ads, no tracking. Sona doesn’t track you across other apps or websites and contains no advertising.
  • Anonymous usage and crash data help us fix problems. One switch in the app turns it off.

What stays on your iPhone

Everything you create in Sona is stored locally on your device:

  • the audio you record, and any edits or takes;
  • the lines you write or edit, your favourites and your sessions;
  • the name you give Sona (optional), your goals, values and phrasing preferences;
  • your reminders, quiet hours and streak history.

When you say a line out loud for Sona to type, speech is turned into text on your iPhone using Apple’s on-device speech recognition. Nothing is sent to us or to a transcription service.

Audio only leaves your iPhone when you choose to share a line as an audio card or export a file. Where it goes then is up to you — Sona doesn’t upload it anywhere.

Optional iCloud backup

You can turn on iCloud backup in the app. It is off by default. When it’s on, your recordings and lines are copied to your own private iCloud database, which is operated by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. We can’t access that database.

Data collected through services we use

Sona uses a few third-party services. These are the only ways data leaves the app:

Data Why Service Linked to you?
Product interaction (for example, “a session was played”) To understand which features are used and improve Sona Google Firebase Analytics No
Crash data and diagnostics To find and fix crashes Google Firebase Crashlytics No
An app-instance identifier To group the events above from one installation Google Firebase No
Purchase history To unlock Sona Pro and restore purchases RevenueCat No — an anonymous id is used

Firebase Remote Config is used only to show occasional in-app notices (for example, “Sona has widgets”).

None of these services receive your recordings, your lines or your name. Sona does not collect contact details, location, contacts, health data, browsing or search history.

Turning it off

In Sona, go to You › Share usage data and switch it off. This stops analytics and crash reports together. Purchases still work, because the App Store and RevenueCat are needed to unlock and restore Sona Pro.

Purchases

Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. RevenueCat receives a record of the purchase, linked to an anonymous identifier, so that Sona Pro can be unlocked and restored.

Permissions

  • Microphone — only to record affirmations in your voice. Recordings are stored on your device and never uploaded.
  • Speech recognition (on some iOS versions) — to turn a line you say into text, on your iPhone only.
  • Notifications — only for the reminders you set.

Sona doesn’t ask for location, camera, contacts or tracking permission.

This website

This website (sona.sydcup.com) doesn’t use cookies for tracking or advertising.

  • Analytics: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and doesn’t track individual visitors.
  • Contact form: if you send us a message, we receive your name, email address and message by email so we can reply. We keep it only as long as needed to help you. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which may process technical information about your browser to tell people from bots.
  • Hosting: the site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard request data (such as IP address) to deliver and protect the site.

Children

Sona is suitable for all ages and doesn’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because Sona has no account and keeps your content on your device, there is no profile for us to hold.

Your rights

Because your content lives on your device, you are in control of it: deleting a recording or line in Sona deletes it, and deleting the app removes everything stored on your iPhone. If you turned on iCloud backup, you can delete that data from iCloud settings on your iPhone.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data, or to object to its processing. The analytics and crash data we receive is not linked to your identity, so we usually can’t single it out — but write to contact@sydcup.com and we’ll help however we can.

Changes

If we change how Sona handles data, we’ll update this page and the date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
